On October 28th 2019 The Damned took the stage at London’s prestigious Palladium Theater for a very special immersive musical and theatrical experience featuring songs from their 43 year existence. A true event from showmen supreme, it was a historic night in the history of a storied band and a special evening for fans and band alike. It was also a fond farewell for drummer Pinch, his final show after two decades with the band. The long awaited Live-album "A Night Of A Thousand Vampires" teams The Damned with The Hammer House of Horror and the cast of The Circus of Horrors.

This compilation originates from (first) split of The Damned in March 1978, after the release of their second album "Music For Pleasure" (November 77). Tired of total chaos, ego war, failure of "Music for Pleasure" wrongly descended from critics, Brian James founds Tanz Der Youth with ex-Warsaw Pakt Andy Colquhoun; Rat Scabies holds the drumsticks in White Cats; Captain Sensible formed the super group King with Dave Berk (Johnny Moped), Kym Bradshaw (Saints) & Henry Badowski (Chelsea), Dave Vanian joined Doctors Of Madness.
The Damned were reformed in September 78 without Brian James, who was replaced by Algy Ward . "Children Of The Damned" illustrates the wandering of 1978 through the Peel Sessions, good times like the very psyche punk "Antipope" included on "Machine Gun Etiquette" in 1979. "Detectives" was reworked into an instrumental called "Wiped Out" and released on Rat Scabies solo single "Let There Be Rats" (1984). "Junkyard Angel" was reworked into the Damned track "Sick Of This And That" on The Damned "The Black Album" (1980).

The Damned su 1986. objavili svoj 7'' vinil "In Dulce Decorum". Istoimena pesma je originalno bila objavljena na albumu "Anything" (1986), a na B-strani ovog singla našla se takođe pesma sa tog albuma, "Psychomania". Godinu dana kasnije (1987), za nemačkog izdavača MCA objavljena je 12'' verzija, na kojoj su se našle extended i dub/instrumental verzija naslovne pesme, plus već spomenuta "Psychomania".
Inspiraciju za "In Dulce Decorum" bend je našao u antiratnoj pesmi Wilfreda Owena "Dulce et decorum est" (1917). Inače, ona počinje delom govora Winstona Churchilla u Donjem domu Parlamenta, 18. juna 1940. na početku Bitke za Britaniju:

Punk legends The Damned visited Margate Winter Gardens on Monday 19th December 2016. The Damned performed their debut album, "Damned Damned Damned" in its entirety, followed by a career-spanning retrospective. The whole concert has been recorded by the Live Here Now team for release as "The Damned 40th Anniversary Tour - Live In Margate". To cap their incredible 40th anniversary year, The Damned reach the pinnacle of their UK tour with this long-awaited night in Margate. Always unforgettable, The Damned continue to wave the flag for originality, stick two fingers up to mediocrity and celebrate a DIY punk ethos in the face of plastic entertainment and scripted reality. Original members David Vanian and Captain Sensible never expected to be going for this long, one of the reasons is because they are simply an incredible live band – and here they are in Margate for one night only. As their loyal live following will attest, The Damned are still as fresh and exciting as they were 40 years ago in 1976.

Bio je to prvi dugosvirajući album koji je izdao jedan britanski punk bend, čime su The Damned zaseli na apsolutno mesto #1 jer su takođe vlasnici i prvog britanskog punk 7-inčnog vinila "New Rose" (1976).
Album je odradila identična ekipa sa prvog singla: Dave Vanian (vokal), Brian James (gitara), Captain Sensible (bas) i Rat Scabies (bubnjevi). Na top listama, najviša pozicija koju je osvojio bila je #36 na UK top listi albuma. U originalnoj verziji, na njemu se nalazi 12 pesama od kojih je 10 uradio James, jednu Rat a "I feel alright" je obrada Iggy Popovog originala.

"New Rose" je prvi singl The Damned, objavljen 22. oktobra 1976. godine za Stiff Records. To je ujedno i prvo 7'' izdanje nekog od britanskih punk bendova. Na B-strani singla nalazila se obrada "Help!" od The Beatles. Više nego dovoljno za first time ever.
