Joy Division 40



Prošlo je tačno četrdeset godina od koncerta održanog u mančesterskom klubu Pips Disco, 25.januara 1978. godine. Pa, po čemu je to bitan datum? Te večeri je bilo predviđeno da nastupe dva benda: predgrupa Connection i zvezde večeri Warsaw. Iako je na plakatu za koncert pisalo da je to koncert Warsaw, stvari su ispale malo drugačije: te večeri ekipa nije svirala pod najavljenim imenom već pod sasvim novim, prisilno izboksovanim zbog problema sa postojećim.
Iako im to nije bila bila prva svirka u životu, to jeste bio prvi nastup pod imenom - Joy Division.
Do tog trenutka aktuelno ime "Warsaw", sebi su nadenuli nadahnuti Bowievom pesmom "Warszawa" sa albuma "Low". Međutim, pred sam pomenuti koncert, usred punk cunamija koji je još uvek brisao sve pred sobom širom UK & ostatka sveta, članovi benda su zaključili da je dosta bilo brkanja Warsaw (iz Mančestera) i Warsaw Pakt (iz Londona). Na predlog Iana Curtisa, preimenovali su se u Joy Division. Curtis je u to vreme bio opsednut romanom "Kuća lutaka" (The House of Dolls, 1955), autora Yehiela De-Nura koji je preživeo užas nacističkog konclogora i koji se ispod naslova knjige potpisao kao Ka-Tzetnik 135633 (što je bio njegov stvarni logoraški broj na ruci). Autor u knjizi opisuje posebnu baraku u logoru, u koju su dovođene logorašice zarad razonode nacista, nazvanu "Odeljenje radosti" (Joy Division).


Promena imena benda izazvala je višestruku zabunu: organizator nije želeo da menja plakat pa je na njemu i dalje pisalo Warsaw, redari na ulazu isprva nisu hteli da puste Curtisa da uđe u salu "jer to veče ne sviraju neki Joy Division, već Warsaw" (misleći da ih folira kako bi se umuvao bez ulaznice), a ni sama publika nije bila ništa manje zbunjena njihovom najavom nakon što je predgrupa odradila svoj deo večeri. 
Tokom svirke izbila je tuča u publici, u koju se umešao Peter Hook skočivši sa bine u gužvu ("da razdvaja prijatelje"), ali i Curtis koji je šutirao nazad pivske flaše kojima su ih gađali, zbog čega je koncert na kratko bio prekinut; malo je nedostajalo da Joy Division budu izbačeni sa svog prvog nastupa pod tim imenom.

Inače, pesma "Warsaw" počinje Curtisovim uzvikom "31G-350125 ... GO!", što je bio serijski broj u ratnom zarobljeništvu dodeljen Hitlerovom zameniku Rudolfu Hessu, nakon hapšenja 1941. u Škotskoj, prilikom pokušaja prebega Saveznicima.
I tako, pre tačno četrdeset godina su se desile dve stvari:
1) umesto Warsaw dobili smo Joy Division
2) umesto punka dobili smo ono što je kasnije nazvano post-punk
Sasvim dovoljno.

"Hologram Moon" is the first Kirlian Camera album after five years in which Elena Alice Fossi and Angelo Bergamini, amongst other things, engaged in their side project SPECTRA*paris. In October 2017, the duo returned with the spectacular single "Sky Collapse", the title track of which was sung together with Covenant's Eskil Simonsson. It dominated the German Alternative Charts for several weeks and keeps heating up German dancefloors.

Omesto Algyja Warda, The Damned je pojačao Paul Gray - basista Eddie & The Hot Rods.

Bonzo Goes To Bitburg



#27 - To rum iz njega govori

Kada me Di Di nazvao i rekao da Ramonsi žele da snime pesmu "Go Home, Ann" koju smo nas dvojica zajedno napisali, predložio je da dođem u studio i pomognem da se to odradi. Ed Stasium bi producirao pesmu, a Lemi iz Motorheda bi uradio miks.
Bilo je pomalo uvrnuto biti ponovo u studiju sa svim Ramonsima na jednom mestu. Odsvirao sam klavijature, a Džoni me zapravo zamolio da odsviram i kompletne bas deonice - bio sam zaprepašćen što mi je uopšte dopustio da bilo šta odsviram. Di Di je čak ušao u žestoku raspravu sa svojim menadžerom zahtevajući da budem spomenut kao aktivan učesnik snimanja, što sam posebno cenio znajući da je on sa tim terao do kraja. Celo to snimanje je podosta ličilo na jednu strku, zato što im je bio potreban neki snimak za B stranu jednog singla. Igrom slučaja, pesma "Dangers Of Love" koju su uradili Džoj i Danijel Rej takođe se našla na B strani tog singla.
A stranu su zajednički potpisali Di Di, Džin Bovoar i Džoj. Bila je to odlična satirična pesma inspirisana politički motivisanom posetom Ronalda Regana jednom groblju na kome su bili sahranjeni esesovci, nazvana "Bonzo Goes To Bitburg" - u stvari, tako se zvala sve dok Reganov "drveni advokat" Džoni Ramon nije počeo da insistira da se njen naziv izmeni u "My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes To Bitburg)".
Zbog toga što se muzički razlikovala od tipičnih pesama Ramonsa - verovatno pod Bovoarovim uticajem - a i tekstualno, zbog svog "društveno-političkog" sadržaja, svi su bili ubeđeni da je Džoj bio inicijator njenog nastanka, iako je to zapravo bio Di Di.
Britanska izdavačka kuća Beggars Banquet je objavila prvo izdanje "Bonza", koje je potom osvojilo Njujoršku muzičku nagradu za najbolji nezavisni singl u 1985. godini. A onaj drugi Bonzo, Ronald Regan, na izborima je osvojio svoj drugi predsednički mandat.

Kako je već rečeno, Reganova administracija je 1986. ušla u drugu godinu svog drugog mandata. Afera "Iran-kontra" još uvek nije bila u potpunosti razotkrivena, a banda pankera u kožnjacima iz njujorškog Kvinsa je ušla u dvanaestu godinu svog postojanja. Kao proizvod njihovog predanog rada, nastao je album "Animal Boy". Na tragu njihovog prethodnog albuma "Too Tough To Die", koji su kritičari ocenili kao "povratak korenima", Ramonsi kreću u dosta ozbiljniju priču. Sa pomenutog albuma izdvojile su se dve himne koje su obeležile drugu deceniju postojanja benda: "Somebody Put Something In My Drink" i "My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes To Bitburg)".
Nekih godinu dana pre objavljivanja albuma, predsednik Regan je palnirao da u okviru Dana pobede u Evropi, zajedno sa nemačkim kancelarom Helmutom Kolom, svetu pokaže čvrstinu veza SAD i Zapadne Nemačke, dve nacije koje su 40 godina pre toga bile neprijatelji. Rečeno - učinjeno: Regan 5. maja 1985. odlazi u Bitburg, obilazi gradsko groblje i potom drži govor u obližnjoj američkoj vojnoj bazi - što izaziva trenutni gnev širom Amerike. Mediji su tada objavili da je 49 esesovaca sahranjeno na tom groblju, i da su neki od njih učestvovali u masakriranju američkih ratnih zarobljenika. Gnevna reakcija se nije zadržala samo među američkim Jevrejima, već se to odnosilo i na razna udruženja američkih ratnih veterana kao i oba doma američkog Kongresa.
Regan je u svom obraćanju na skupu baljezgao o tim esesovcima kao o vojnicima "koji su takođe bili žrtve nacizma, baš kao i oni u koncentracionim logorima... regrutovani da sprovode nacističku ideologiju mržnje". Nema potrebe naglasiti da je tim svojim budalaštinama i "odbranom palih nemačkih vojnika" njih izjednačio sa žrtvama Holokausta, i da je na taj način dao podršku nacistima.



Džoj Ramon (kao Jevrejin, lično zgađen ovim Reganovim potezom), Di Di i Džin Bovoar (basista/klavijaturista Plazmatiksa) napisali su pesmu u znak protesta, ali i kao sopstveni prilog američkoj istoriji. Džoj je u intervjuu za jedan magazin rekao:

"Svi smo mi dobri Amerikanci, ali to što je Regan uradio predstavlja čisto sranje. Pa on se na neki način posrao po svima nama! Svi su mu govorili da ne ide tamo, ljudi iz njegove ekipe su mu govorili da ne ide, ali ne - on je ipak otišao. Pa, jebote, kako možeš da u tuđe ime oprostiš i zaboraviš Holokaust, to što je šest miliona ljudi bilo potrovano gasom i spaljeno? Kako možeš da kažeš Pa... dobro, sad je sve OK? To je čisto ludilo!"
"Bonzo" iz naslova je zapravo šimpanza koji se pojavljuje u filmu "Bedtime For Bonzo" (1951), u kome je Ronald Regan glumio na početku svoje filmske karijere. Pesma se u originalu jednostavno zvala "Bonzo Goes To Bitburg" (Regan/majmun ide u Bitburg); problem je nastao kada je tvrdi konzervativac Džoni Ramon odbio da se pesma tako zove, zato što "vređa njegovog omiljenog predsednika":
"Ja nisam nikada hteo da se Ramonsi bave politikom. Nisam mogao da im dopustim da to na albumu objave pod tim naslovom sa singla, zato je promenjeno u My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down. Ne mogu oni tako da pričaju o mom omiljenom predsedniku."
Konačno, pesma je na albumu objavljena kao "My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down" sa dodatim "Bonzo Goes To Bitburg" u zagradi. Bez obzira na ovu promenu, pesmu uglavnom svi znaju kao "Bonzo".
Sam naslov pesme nije originalna ideja Ramonsa - identičan slogan su isticali demonstranti na protestima širom Evrope i Amerike, povodom ove Reganove posete. Na Di Dijev podsticaj, Džoj je napisao stihove o tome koliko je bio revoltiran tom Reganovom posetom i nepoštovanjem jevrejskih žrtava:

Hej - saberi se, prekopaj po sopstvenom đubretu

Stani malo, možda su ti silne pare pomutile svest
Bolje prvo zovi pandure pre nego što se prijaviš
Jebote, političar si a ne Hitlerov omladinac
Bonzo prvo ode u Bitburg, pa onda na šolju čaja

"Bonzo" je objavljen u maju 1985. kao 7'' i 12'' vinil (samo u Velikoj Britaniji, odakle je u SAD ušao striktno kao import), pod originalnim naslovom i sa originalnim omotom. Tek 1986. se našao na albumu "Animal Boy" - mutiranog naslova, naravno. U SAD je objavljeno samo neformalno DJ promo izdanje za radio stanice, sa potpuno belom prednjom stranom omota - podjednako iz "finansijskih i političkih razloga".
Inače, Bonzom/majmunom/Reganom su se tri godine pre Ramonsa već pozabavili The Damned u svojoj pesmi "Bad Time For Bonzo" (Strawberries, 1982). Čisto i to da se zna - i ne zaboravi.

“Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious were both punched in the face by girl fans as the Sex Pistols performed today deep in the heart of Texas.” That was the lede for the English newspaper The Evening News covering the Pistols' concert at The Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas, TX on January 10, 1978. It proved to be one of the strangest, most contentions shows in one of the strangest, most contentious tours in rock history.


By this point, Sid was receiving most of the attention onstage. Other members of the band are getting fed up with his narcissistic attitude. Before the show, Steve threatened to punch him for focusing on himself and not the music. Sid hit the bottle hard before the show. Being in Texas again, he and Johnny mocked the "Cowboys" in attendance. About half of the 1,800 in the crowd were fans; the other half were Country & Western fans defending their territory against these British punks. There were about 100 police on hand. The Dallas police department even had a SWAT team ready just in case the show turned into a riot. It didn’t, but just barely.
John wore an ugly pink shirt and black glove for most of the show, while Steve was all black, including boots, spurs, and a Sheriff's star. Although he contributed nothing musically, Sid knew he was stealing Johnny's limelight, which is more important to him. With "Gimme a Fix" on his bare chest, Sid barely played his bass and seemed more interested in jumping around instead of performing music. Plastic cups and other assorted objects flew toward the stage for the duration of the performance. (no glass bottles were sold)
At the end of "Holidays in the Sun" Sid got head-butted by an overzealous woman (Lamar St. John was actually their hardcore fan, she drove from L.A. to see the show) and received a bloody nose. Instead of wiping up the mess, he let the gore flow down his torso. After smearing it on his face, he spat into the crowd, yelling off-mic and over the din "All cowboys are queer!" Johnny remarked "Look at that... a living circus."
During "Pretty Vacant" Sid took a broken bottle and carved his chest. He removed the pus-soaked bandage from his arm and threw it into the crowd. The other band members continued the show. With his newly carved chest, Sid wasn't playing bass as much as using it, while jumping around and staring, like the heroin-deprived, schnapps zombie he now was. 
After a blistering version of "Anarchy in the U.S.A.," the band left the stage, and, surprisingly, the crowd yelled for more. As the band reappeared for an encore, Sid showed the audience an obscene gesture and Steve yelled, "You must be mad to want more of us!" In the middle of "No Fun" Steve confronted a heckler by throwing a couple punches and jabbing him with the headstock of his guitar.
The next morning, the Dallas newspaper read: "Most of the people last night came to see the people who came to see the Sex Pistols."


Actually this show starts with the song "God Save The Queen" but begins to be filmed in "EMI"; there is some footage of the early songs, TV programs made by reporting the show, but not completely recorded. 
Four days later, the band broke up. “This is no fun. No fun at all. Ever feel like you’ve been cheated?” Rotten wearily said on stage in San Francisco, the Sex Pistol’s final concert, before walking off stage and quitting the band.
Sid was dead a year later from a heroin overdose.

Haldol continues to evolve and explore the many facets of deathrock and post-punk on their newly released 3rd LP “The Totalitarianism of Everyday Life”. It’s difficult to pigeonhole Haldol’s sound to one particular band or style, because with every song they evolve from the last and put new twists and turns onto their style. They’ve always tending to shy away from the mundane, predictable or anticipated structures and sounds of post-punk. Instead, they tend to draw musical inspiration from a farther flung range of styles and approaches. “The Totalitarianism of Everyday Life” is a sonically haunting, decomposing and pained album with bursts of layered noise aggression, constantly pushing forward and unyielding.
